Byebye Oma Auguste

Yay first time that I got to go online from home this week… our neighbor’s unsecured wireless signal is really NOT strong… It works for my roommate’s new macbook but my crappy old Microsoft wireless card is not digesting it well.

Overall this week was really nice but it was overshadowed by my paternal grand-ma’s passing over. After three weeks in hospital (which I didn’t know she was because my dad tends to not tell me things like that….) she died early this week. Good timing I dare say as at least that way I’ll get to go to her funeral when I’m back in Germany. I’m sad she’s gone and I feel horrible for my dad – I’m basically his only close family left – but I think my grandma is happy that she’s passed over to the other side and in her believes close to her daughter again. So not too much mourning, I think she’s had a great life and made the most of it and that’s the most important thing. Unfortunately death is part of life as much as birth and I think after 79 years it’s alright to die. But still… 🙁

Other than that, I’ve been busy socialising with a birthday party, bar time during the week, chilling with the neighbors, visiting old time friends in their house and BBQing, pool time and then today my German friend Siggie and his family invited me to go out to the lake with their boat. Of course today is the first day that the sun is not shining. Oh the irony. Though it might actually be nicer that way and definitely better for my skin ;). We’ve had temperatures from 90-105F every day that I’ve been here. I thought the pilot was kidding when he said “welcome to Charlotte, the temperature is 46°C” uhm no and that wasn’t even the hottest day…

Well, time has definitely flown by these past 2.5 weeks and I can’t believe I’m back on the plane on Wednesday night. Wow! I’m just hoping the visa process will go smoothly and semi-quickly cause even though I’ve been super busy every day there’s still so much I wanna do.
Anyways, hope you’re all doing alright, I havn’t really had the chance to read many blogs lately….

Not So Boring Weekend Afterall

Well I thought my weekend was gonna be really boring but it was actually quite fun. Friday night after some Harris Teeter sushi I hung out with an ex co-worker and his wife and we caught up on all the company gossip there ;-). Great stories! I was like “WHAT?!” more than once…
Saturday after sleeping long (only until 10 actually but better than during the week) and relaxing in my PJs I met with some friends and we got some food at The Philosopher’s Stone. Hadn’t had BLT for a while. Yum!
All that greasy food didn’t stop me from getting really really drunk at some bar later on with more of the gang. Kind of nice to have a place to walk to and not having to drive. 😀 Couldn’t o to bed right away because those long island ice-teas made it spin just a tad bit too much. I think I was sitting on the sofa for almost an hour just waiting to sober up a tiny bit. The next morning at 9 I was still drunk – which was much nicer than the hang-over that started around lunch time. Yugh. Giorigo, who had slept in my roommates bed, and I went out for breakfast and of course we run into my ex boss who kept talking about business in Italian… era troppo presto per l’italiano… but I have to say I’m understanding more and more as time goes by (though sometimes I just ignore it and don’t listen as it’s really hard…).
Got back home then and had rest for a while cause that hang-over had started to kick in (but thank you Alker-Seltzer for saving me from worse) and then I cleaned the house and did some laundry. We have the coolest laundry machine and dryer I have ever seen in the states! 😀 Front loaders rock and so does this person who has unprotected wireless internet access. Thanks whoever you are!

Busy Weekend Recap

Seems like it’s constantly raining here – yuk! My cold isn’t getting any better either with this shitty weather. Ah well, I’ll be in the city of 30°C next week so it might be nice to be used to cold AC like temperatures. 😉
Had a busy weekend. Saturday we had the TV team here and shoot a little clip about the genetically modified corn field near us. A farmer friend said a few things and my step-dad, too and it was nice to see my old roommate who was the journalist for this little production. I might be in it, too depending on how they cut. Go see it on NDR next Monday 8/6 at 20:15 in Markt.
Right after that we celebrated my step-dad’s birthday with good food and lots of family friends until 2am.
Sunday my dad gave me a lift to Hamburg and we had wanted to see the HSV soccer match but surprisingly that was sold out. Hmmm. Well, I then went over to my friend’s place but I did feel bad for my dad who had only driven up because of that. Oh well. I met Anke at R-Eis, a milkrice bar. Super cool and man I should have taken a photo of the interior design I absolutely loved it! Had some pear-cinnamon rice and a latte macchiato for 3,50€. Gotta love student eateries. We then trooped back home after dropping of her sister at the train station. Bloody rain. But a cup of tea and rattatouille warmed us back up and we enjoyed some TV and chatted.
Monday I went for my interview, which was alright but kind of weird “Well you have all the qualifications (lists everything), what do you want here?” and “We don’t really have a strategy here” and well it was all kind of weird. Don’t think it’s my cup of tea. Afterwards I got some cake and a croissant at my favorite bakery and we hung out some more and then I took the train back home. Of course I got in with a 20 minutes delay but I still made it to the dentist before they closed and she said my tooth is fine, it’s just a crack with a discoloration. I love my dentist. She calls me with my first name and always asks what I’m doing now and my sisters and my mom and blabla. We’ve been going there for more than 10 years now and you know how villages are. Anyways, I’m glad it’s not caries. Yay! 🙂
Oh and about the cortisol, it’s actually not that bad when you inhale it. My doc talked about that with me, too. The pills are a real bitch but I only inhale a thousanths of the dosis and the biggest side-effect is some mouth fungus from the transporation particles and not even the corticol itself if you don’t rinse your mouth afterwards. Well I brush my teeth right after inhaling it so that should do the trick.
Alrighty, hope you’re all doing well! Smoochies!

What Your Soul Really Looks Like

You are quite expressive and thoughtful. You see the world in a way that others are blind to.

You are a grounded person, but you also leave room for imagination and dreams. You feet may be on the ground, but you’re head is in the clouds.

You believe that people see you as larger than life and important. While this is true, they also think you’re a bit full of yourself.

Your near future is a lot like the present, and as far as you’re concerned, that’s a very good thing.

For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn’t fall in love with someone you didn’t trust.

You Have Many Alpha Tendencies

You’re not a total alpha female, but you certainly know how to – and like to – get your way.
You’re forceful without being intimidating. You’re confident without being vain. A perfect mix.

Your Famous Last Words Will Be:

“Nice doggy.”

You Are A Fig Tree

You are very independent and strong minded.
A hard worker when you want to be, you play hard too.
You are honest and loyal. You hate contradiction or arguments.
You love life, and you live for your friends, children, and animals.
A great sense of humor, artistic talent, and intelligence are all gifts you possess.

Not Much Going on

No wonder I’ve been so lazy about blogging, nothing’s happening here really except some job things that I won’t blog about publicly though. Went to my grand-ma’s with my dad yesterday after having bugged him long enough about going there with me. She seems like she’s come back well from her stroke and heart-attack last December. We went grocery shopping for her and then had some yummy Eichsfelder coldcuts lunch. Mmmm! Too bad I couldn’t fit anymore in my tummy, would have loved to have tried that liversausage, too.
Hmmmm, whatelse… I hung out with Juliane on Saturday. They got a new puppy and he’s too cute! Went on a walk with all their 3 dogs and the poor old one kept trotting behind but at least she did walk seeing that she hadn’t been able to do that before.
My old roommate from Hamburg also called me (well both of them did but I mean the one that works as a journalist). She wants to shoot a story about that genetically manipulated corn that’s being tested on a field near here and we gave her a couple of contacts to talk to. Well turned out all these organic farmers that are soooo against the field don’t want to appear in front of a camera for who knows what reasons. Come on, they have an opportunity to get their point accross and they don’t want to do it… uhm-kay (oh and it’s not private TV, it’s a public channel, too). Ah well.
Oh yeah I’m supposed to write that Marc and I were on the phone for ages yesterday and it was nice to catch up with him. 😉
This week I have a couple of appointments. Dr.’s on Friday, hopefully hair dresser, too, then Saturday my step-dad has his birthday party and then Sunday I’m going to Hamburg with my Dad and maybe I’ll watch his soccer team (HSV) play or maybe not, then I’ll go straight to my friend’s place where I’ll stay the night before I have an interview there.
Alright, I’ll stop boring everybody now… toodles!
