I’m giving my life a purpose again… lemme try taking a self portrait every day for 365 days again. Yay! So I’ll try really hard to complete the 365 days project this time around. It should be easier because Rich has already agreed to do it too so we can motivate ourselves. Anybody else who wants to join in??
What I’ve been doing…
Yeah, long time no entry but sharing a family PC to go online sucks. I’ve had a pretty uneventful week after my graduation. Did not go on vacation đ but there was a federal holiday and even though almost all my friends here were busy with things like family visits, homoeopathic sessions and renovating my friend Jens took pity on me and spent the day with me in Hanover. First I got to see his apartment for the first time (he’s lived there for ages and has complained that no one ever visited him there). Then we attempted to go swimming but the pool was closed. Then we drove by the Octoberfest there but decided to have some ice-cream in the city center. So we did that, and boy was that ice-cream good! (Giovanni something at the Kröpke) Afterwards we attempted to stroll around the HerrenhĂ€user GĂ€rten but they were still charging you to get in and so we finally decided to drive to the Steinhuder Meer, which is a big lake somewhere there. Very touristy and crowded but we took a look at everything before we drove back to Hanover. Had some tea at his place and then another stroll towards the city center to eat sushi. Yay! The food was fine but a highlight was definitely the door to the kitchen that was super narrow and only about 1.20m high so the poor waiters always had to crouch waaaay low. Afterwards we watched Lords of War, which was really good and then I finally drove home. So yeah, I don’t do much but when I do something, I sometimes do a lot of things.
The weekend was good, too. Went out to the pubs and then dancing on Friday with my dear friends and that was loads of fun. Wanna know our running gag: “In theory I have a job…” Saturday I felt really tired as I had had a night from hell (not from drinking… my stomach felt like it was full with Ahoi fizzy powder) and Sunday I felt really sick with throat ache out of no where and a runny nose (which I both still have – yay…). Went into town yesterday to run some errands and today I took a few trains (like 6) to go to the German branch of my theoretical company and looked around there.
Thursday another trip to Frankfurt for that logic test with P&G and I hope the S-Bahn is still working then as they plan on striking again (bloody eejits) and then I get to help my friend Michaellyn move into her new apartment and paint with her so I’ll stay in Frankfurt until maybe Sunday.
Das geschĂ€ftige Leben einer Erwerbslosen…. (the busy life of an unemployed)
Cheers!
The Anxiety… it’s killing me
While I’m sitting here waiting for my visa forms from the lawyer to arrive I’m of course thinking waaayyyy too much. I’m so worried that I won’t get another J-1 visa, it’s seriously affecting my appetite (and makes me nauseous at times). I just want to get the forms so I can arrange an appointment in Berlin (hello super expensive consulate hotline) and get it over with. This not knowing is driving me nuts and doesn’t let me sleep well (not every night but still enough tossing and turning for my liking). UGH!
Anyway, I’m trying to keep busy to keep my mind from going back to the visa issue. Friday night Jenny, Juliane and I tried the new Indian restaurant in town and it was quite nice. The mango lassi had a bit too little mango in it but the chicken was really soft and tender and the waiters were extremely nice and let us sit there for ever without bothering us about getting more drinks etc. Afterwards (around 10:30pm – yes not everyone eats at 6pm here) we headed for the local disco but that was too empty so we headed to some new retro looking bar but that was too crowded and so we settled at another bar where we used to drink hot chocolate when we cut class or had a free period back in the days. Good old days :).
Saturday we checked out the first illumination of the city’s cathedral and made sure Jenny was seen by all the high animals of her company that sponsored the event and then headed to my Dad’s pub for an Ossi-Party (East German Party). That was less frequented than we had thought it to be but we still had a good time and then of course my dad had to tell embarassing stories from my childhood but oh well. That’s what parents are there for, right? đ
Then yesterday after a pleasent time at the salt water (in door of course) pool (with waves) I went to the theater here and watched a dance/music/acrobatics performance and that was really good. Made me wanna start up tap dancing again. I might just do that if there’s a place whereever I’ll wind up next.
Alright, hope you’re all having a really nice week with much better weather than here!!
Not So Boring Weekend Afterall
Well I thought my weekend was gonna be really boring but it was actually quite fun. Friday night after some Harris Teeter sushi I hung out with an ex co-worker and his wife and we caught up on all the company gossip there ;-). Great stories! I was like “WHAT?!” more than once…
Saturday after sleeping long (only until 10 actually but better than during the week) and relaxing in my PJs I met with some friends and we got some food at The Philosopher’s Stone. Hadn’t had BLT for a while. Yum!
All that greasy food didn’t stop me from getting really really drunk at some bar later on with more of the gang. Kind of nice to have a place to walk to and not having to drive. đ Couldn’t o to bed right away because those long island ice-teas made it spin just a tad bit too much. I think I was sitting on the sofa for almost an hour just waiting to sober up a tiny bit. The next morning at 9 I was still drunk – which was much nicer than the hang-over that started around lunch time. Yugh. Giorigo, who had slept in my roommates bed, and I went out for breakfast and of course we run into my ex boss who kept talking about business in Italian… era troppo presto per l’italiano… but I have to say I’m understanding more and more as time goes by (though sometimes I just ignore it and don’t listen as it’s really hard…).
Got back home then and had rest for a while cause that hang-over had started to kick in (but thank you Alker-Seltzer for saving me from worse) and then I cleaned the house and did some laundry. We have the coolest laundry machine and dryer I have ever seen in the states! đ Front loaders rock and so does this person who has unprotected wireless internet access. Thanks whoever you are!
