Well, after sunshine there comes rain. Bloody rainy and windy this morning so I felt like I had done a workout instead of just walking to work. Wrestling with my umbrella and jumping puddles. Oh joyful joy. Fecking weather… Hmpf!
Next time – waterproof mascara.
Some time in the future – get a car.
Hmpf!
Sunny Dublin
Woke up in shock yesterday: the sun was shining and that on a Saturday and not a work day! Woooohoooooo! Of course I had to take advantage of that and so I went to the city centre and strolled around. I had a nice walk up the Liffey River on the little boardwalk they have and then took the lift up to the Chimney – an old chimney of the Jameson destillery from which you have a beautiful view over the city up to the mountains. Gorgeous!
From there I walked to the south side of the river and got some Italian pizza wrap for lunch which I ate at Dublin Castle. Last time there I couldn’t find the castle garden but this time I did and so I sat on a little stone bench in the sun there for a while. Felt so nice to have the sun shine into my face and the warmed stones in my back. After a while I set off to Trinity College to get some more pictures with blue sky and the sun. I only hung out there for a tiny bit because my co-worker texted me and asked if I wanted to join her and her hubby for coffee downtown. So of course I agreed and we had a cup at the Powerscourt Townhouse Shopping Centre. So beautiful in there as it really used to be a residence for this Powerscourt family. We also walked around it a bit to look around and Aly and Eamon bought a pretty painting at a gallery there. We decided to have some pints then because I hadn’t yet set foot into an Irish pub and so we did that. They serve Coors Light with ice cubes here! Talk about one cold beer! Never seen that before but it didn’t taste much different – just damn cold!
In other news, the Irish girl moved into the room next to mine on Friday night and we had a few glasses of wine together that day. She seems really friendly so that takes away another pro moving issue on my list. I also found an air mattress at argos.ie for 30€ so I’m almost certain that I won’t move now. The people at the nice place actually offered me the room but I think if I move, I’m gonna move to a place with an ensuite bathroom. Otherwise I’ll stick it out here.
Alrighty, it’s another sunny day here so I’m thinking about going to Dalkey on the shore or do something outside anyways. Have a great Sunday!!
Edit 4pm: It got really gray and cloudy so I stayed home and relaxed. Should probably work on the diploma thesis now. 😉
More Thoughts on Moving
Well, I can’t stop thinking about this whole moving thing. Alas, just like when you’re thinking about breaking up a relationship, here’s a little pro-con moving list.
PRO
– No more electricity card shortage (though it’s been quite alright this week with both of my roommates buying 20Euro cards)
– No more waking up at 5am because someone turns the lights on in the hallway (though I’m sure I could put some carton over the window and eliminate the light)
– No more waking up at 5am because of the doors (they always slam close – not much you can do about it)
– No more cigarette bugs (Though Toni’ll be gone soon so that problem won’t exist anymore and the kitchen will be cleaner)
– My visitors could share my bed with me (but otherwise they could sleep on an airmattress, which wouldn’t be bad either plus they’d have a real blanket and pillows in any case)
– I’d meet new people
– More sort of living together with people and not living along side of each other
CON
– Sharing a bathroom (think dirtier, potential problems with timing)
– Less proper and orderly place
– Less convenient internet access at the new place
– Less space
– No desk (I still have to finish writing my thesis remember…)
– I’d have to move (moving is always a hassle though I don’t have that many things)
– I already do feel kind of at home in my place because it doesn’t feel like someone has lived there before)
– There’s a hot guy in the office that sells those electricity cards
– I get visitors almost every weekend so do I really need to rely on roommates for company plus we’d have more space at my current place than in a new one
– No security guard on the property like in my current place (though I’m not too worried about that but then Ballymum (=bad area) is right down the road (in both current and potential new apartments)
– Less privacy at new place
Can you believe it?! Here I was all whining about my place and now I’m actually considering staying in there because I’ve gotten used to it and let’s face it – I’m not the youngest anymore *cough* and I like having a bit of privacy, too. Ahh! Someone set my head straight, please!
Apartment Viewings
Hallihallo!
I looked at two apartments last night. Nice Valentine’s Activity, huh? 😉 The first one was ok but kind of run down with cracks in the cealing and a vandalized lift door in the house. The girl living there seemed rather quiet and my gut feeling says no so I won’t take that one. The second apartment was nice. Not super clean but managable. I’d share the bathroom with a 21 year old girl who is a – take a guess – flight attendant! Haha! The couple that lives there seemed really nice and there’s a double bed and broadband so I’d take it if they want me.
Now, having seen these two places I’m really appreciating my en-suite bathroom and my desk and the internet connection in my room and the well-taken-care-of-ness of my aparment complex. But for meeting people and having fun I’m sure another apartment would be much better. So we shall see.
In other news, I feel kind of ill. My throat hurts and I just feel kind of under the weather with hot flashes and fun things like that. Got some lozenges from the pharmacy and guess what! No Dayquil here. Ahhh!
Alright, hope you all have a nice Thursday!
